This part has to match the regular resolution curved parts.

The bottom studs are too long and is almost protruding the top surface.
The edges on the stud4s even becomes visible, when I zoom out and look at it from a distance.

I had already seen that with the stud4s myself ... comes from the reduced resolution ... of course.

By using the 48 cyli I get a good deal for ALL rendering programs - which is my intention when I create parts.

.... if I should use the standard resolution, how do you imagine the transition to the adjacent polygons in the part itself?

Yes, tough issue. I think that the cyli part should be replaced with quads following 1/4cyli normal resolution surface. Render is OK (no gaps) and it properly matches other parts in most LDraw usages.

What about changing the angles of the stud4s and increasing the slope? Could that help lessen the protrusion?

The three stud tubes are still too long and should be redone using primitives that done add edgelines inside the part.

I would like to remove the edge lines along the side.
