Two wrong doesn't make one right. I agree with Philo. The outside should be hi-res.

Instead of using loose primitives to create the underside studs, you could use the stud8a primitive.
It doesn't have an edge line around the base.

From the viewpoint of printed pattern author, hi-res outer curves are preferable, agreeing with Philo and Magnus.

Since there are no "inverse ering" (as far as I know), we cannot avoid undesired artifacts of primitive substitution at concave circular curves (except tricky use of small ndises??).
(For part 3664, we can use erings to fill the gaps between 16-seg patterns and 48-seg substituted primitives, the part goes well.)

The "inverse erings" are the tang primitives. See for ex. https://www.ldraw.org/cgi-bin/ptdetail.cgi?f=p/48/1-8tang.dat. Drawback is that they are triangle intensive, so for the unpatterned part I would simply use a ndis.

Edges on the 2 long half cylinders, on the understuds, are very close to the outer, curved topsurface.
