As far as I know there is a version with a flat end and one with a round end.

It doesn't seem so: http://cache.lego.com/media/bricks/5/2/4612889.jpg
But the part is not common, found evidence of it only in set 2257.

I have found this on bricklink:
http://www.bricklink.com/TL/3008.jpg
http://www.bricklink.com/PL/4497.jpg
The first one seems to be with a flat end.

if this is an alias, then it needs a "=" prefix in the title

So I am going to restore the old hold vote until the end piece is cleared.

I checked several reviews of sets, that are listed at bricklink, which use this and its sister.
In all reviews of the Ninjago the spear had been with a round end, but the round end is also present for the "old" green spear, which was produced in 2005.
After doing some more researches I found out, that only the DarkBrown and FlatSilver (Bricklink Colour Names) have the flat end.
I have really no idea how to manage this problem in our library...

4497b should be flat end version (and I LOATHE a/b parts, so I wouldn't say this lightly).

According to BrickSet (and all internal info I have), 93789 only comes in 297 WARM GOLD, 316 TITANIUM METALLIC, and 192 REDDISH BROWN (in the 71002 Series 11 TIKI WARRIOR / Island Warrior -- I own two of this set, and they're both round-ended, though there is no DESIGN ID embossed on either one PROVING that they're 93789, just the TLG inventory indicating it's 6040507 / 93789).

I also own, still in bags, 70317 The Fortrex, which shows a flat-ended spear on the front photo, and in fact has the same flat-ended spear (black) in MODELBAG 6. The BOM for 70317 lists the part as 449726, which is the oldest of old-school ITEM IDs, for the MINI SPEAR (4497) in BLACK (26).

Ergo, since 4497 is the only of the two spears to come in black, it comes in black with a "flat" ended handle in 70317, and the 70317 lists the item as 449726 (which is DESIGN/COLOR 4497 / 26), 4497b should be the flat-ended version (and 4497 moves to 4497a).

IMHO this is the part with the flat end.

This is a typical case where TLG changed the mould and inventory in the same sets came with both types.

The end shall be flattened and the part certified.
