Description/Notes:
L3P is a neat little utility that will produce a ready-to-render POV-file from any LDraw model using any part. L3P runs under DOS or in a DOS-box in Windows95/WindowsNT/Linux. L3P reads any DAT or MPD file, supports ROTATE etc. metacommands used by the minifig-modeller and produces POV-Ray 3.0/3.1 compatible input.

News:
The current version of L3P has added support to use Lutz Uhlmann's high-quality LGEO POV library. It references the library and uses the available parts, and can fill in the missing parts by generating them itself for a higher quality result. Read more about this in Lars' announcement of the new L3P version on LUGNET.

The basic idea of L3P is to take a DAT-file and generate a POV-file with

  1. all the triangles and quads of the model and its parts
  2. automatically calculated camera and light source positions

The only remaining thing for the user to do, is to start POV-Ray.

See some examples of raytraced images at the L3P Gallery.

Though simply converting faces L3P does produce good looking images which render relatively fast. However, the quality of course cannot match that of the specialized Lgeo parts.

L3P is also a DAT-file-checker, see documentation in the enclosed l3p.txt
