This subpart needs to be used carefully, because there are 2 variants of it:
1) the one that fits the old, cylindrical (blue or red) electric plugs
(http://library.brickshelf.com/scans/catalogs/1969/c69nl/c69nl-10.html)
2) the one that fits the new, grey 12V and 4.5V ones
(http://www.peeron.com/inv/parts/765c01)
This file should make clear to which one it refers. Holding for that reason.

Mike, did you notice that this part contributes to a solution
to our "electrical plugs size problem" at
http://www.ldraw.org/cgi-bin/ptreviewsummary.cgi?f=electricplugs
? This part is one that has sockets that only fit the older,
smaller electrical plugs (Type 1, Type 2),
but not the newer, larger ones (Type 4 and up).

Yes, nowadays I see that. My problem with this is that we (you) needs to come to a conclusion on the dimensions of the pin and pinholes. If we have fixed that like the axleholes anybody can update the parts where necessary. These are very old parts so I'm afraid we will never close this issue as these parts are not in the hands of our todays part authors.

Sorry, mike, it is my fault (lack of time)
that we haven't cleared the plug size issue
http://www.ldraw.org/cgi-bin/ptreviewsummary.cgi?f=electricplugs
yet. I have physically available:
- the older plugs (of smaller diameter like x592c01.dat)
- the newer plugs (of larger diameter like 765c01.dat)
- the older motors (like this one which fits x592c01.dat but not 765c01.dat)
- the newer motors (x501ac01.dat which fit 765c01.dat but not x592c01.dat)

Thank you very for this explanation but I was asking for dimensions:
We have the following plugs:
http://www.ldraw.org/cgi-bin/ptdetail.cgi?f=parts/s/766s01.dat
http://www.ldraw.org/cgi-bin/ptdetail.cgi?f=parts/s/765s01.dat
http://www.ldraw.org/cgi-bin/ptdetail.cgi?f=parts/s/x567s02.dat
Which one is correct? To which diameter (mm or LDU) of the plug has the other(s) to be changed?

I am very sorry to have caused confusion about the diameter
of the electric plugs of Type 1,2,3,4.
My claim was that Types 1,2 have a smaller diameter than 3,4,
and I was wrong with that.
So this part sadly again needs renaming.

well, my error was to distinguish between the types via diameter.
after we found out that it is identical,
there is no need anymore for this part to carry "type 1" in its name,
as it also would fit for the other types and/or could be used with/for
them. Thus, my sole request was just to get rid of that specialization.
For me, even a simple
"~Electric Contact" or
"~Electric Socket" etc.
would do.
