The (older?) copy I had of the primitive caused really bad draw issues.

Probably, this is an ldraw.org problem over the part?..

Really can't see anything wrong there, even at high magnification. There are a bunch of T-junctions around that perhaps could explain some imperfections, but I don't even see evidence of that!
