I would prefer condlines at the left and right end, where it is connected to the brick.

I don't like the simplifications made here.
It looks like a lo-res version of this clip.
Could you perhaps make use of some primitives, instead?

Maybe we should make this file based on a clip primitive geometry?
Any thoughts, Mike?

should this, like the other clip primitives, become a clip primitive?
(i mean, not this file, but a primitive file modeling the full clip)

I do not have such a part at hand. The geomety is taken from data we got.
As I already wrote in my previous comment - please change whatever you might think is needed as i can not be of much help here.

seeing the clip comparison at
http://www.ldraw.org/cgi-bin/ptdetail.cgi?f=parts/30237.dat
, it becomes more and more appearing mandatory to me that we
re-model this clip as a primitive

"Primitives are defined as highly re-usable components of LEGO parts modelled for LDraw."
We add more and more one time primitives!

yes and no.
whether this clip is modeled as a subpart or primitive makes no difference in regards of filecount.
but having it as a primitive brings the following advantages:
- it allows connectivity software to use the primitive
- it collects all clip primitives in 1 central place

Ok, your arguments counts.
And with the help of LDStructure we now know in a few seconds where this primitive is used :)

Reworked.
Could become a primitive, but is only used in one known design.

Header formatting feels a little off.. and why the need for a !CATEGORY statement in a subpart?

this should be converted to a primitive IMHO
and go along with the other clips there.
having it as a subfile or primitive makes no difference in file count (1),
but primitive gives greater systematics
