I think there might be two versions of this part. Hollow or solid studs.

Are you shure? I don't think I've ever seen one with hollow studs. I know for a shure that they are most common with solid studs. All the patterned versions definitely have solid studs.

I just spend some time looking for reference images of all the sets
which included this part and I couldn't find any examples where it had
hollow studs. So I'm not convinced it has exsited with hollow studs :/

I also own quite a lot of them and I definitely couldn't find any
between those.

I do believe there existed a version with locking hinges which had
hollow studs though?

Are you certain that is a photograph and not an LDraw render? All my large collection of M:Tron decorated 2582, that were easily accessible have solid studs.

No.

Here's the add:
http://stores.ebay.it/devogiocare?_nkw=2582&submit.x=0&submit.y=0
The same seller has pictures of three different parts, but they're all in very low quality. Could be renderings.

I think that many of the images on this eBay store are stolen.
For example
http://i.ebayimg.com/00/s/NjAwWDYyNw==/z/OuUAAOSwKytZHIlE/$_12.JPG
is clearly taken from peeron
http://www.peeron.com/inv/parts/2582px1
and
https://thumbs.ebaystatic.com/d/l225/m/mOA_pnJvjFHbJzBIOFflPPQ.jpg
is clearly taken from brickset

It is well known that if there is no molding or funtional reason, LEGO prefers to usee stud where logo is more visible instead of stud2. This supports the plain stud to be the only version (no valid reason here for hollow studs).
