"old" should be removed from part name.
(Each part at some point in time will become "old".)

hmmm, shouldn't this become some x...p01.dat file?
and the unpatterned version of it the same without ...p01 suffix?

this file has hardcoded color 47 for the door.
this makes it less versatile.
color 16 would have been better.
when we do the move to 822p01, we should take the opportunity
to make 822p01 be in color 16, and this file then can stay
with hardcoded color 47, referencing 822p01

yikes, I just noticed that the door moulding of 822.dat and 823.dat
differ: 822.dat has a cross on its rear. 823 has not.

so to properly reflect this in numbering and usability, I suggest:
(a) move current 822.dat to 822a.dat
(b) create unpatterned version of 823.dat , let it be 822b.bat
(c) move current 823.dat to 822bp01.dat
(d) renumber subfiles accordingly

note that I'm just talking about the LDRAW files.
I don't have access to the real part, so cannot verify where a cross
on the rear side is present or not

(c) requires even more action: 822bp01 should use color 16,
and 823 will then become a physical color shortcut color 47 of it...

Have you studied these parts at Bricklink? 822ac01, 822bc01, 823ac01, 823bc01 and so on.
There seems to be a lot more variants of the different pieces in these parts.
With or without cross on back.
With or without hingepin on door.
With or without hingepin on counterweight.
With or without hingepin on both sides of counterweight.

Shouldn't there also be files with Left and Right version of the counterweight? Not just a mirrored sub-file. Like the minifig arms.

What is your plan for these parts?

I just wanted to bring things forward here so that 822.dat / 823.dat
can be included in the next update.

I did not know about the additional variants yet.
I have suggested to use variants ...a, ...b currently
and think that more like ...c etc. can be added later
by anybody willing to.

I am unsure if the counterweights can be disassembled from the door.
If yes, then it is wrong that they currently are subparts.
Then, they need to become parts, and a left and right version
needs to get created.
If no, the subpart is correct as it is now.

The current measures taken are:
(a) I'm waiting for Chris' renumbering action
(b) We need a decision if the counterweights are parts or subparts.
I'd like to volunteer to do the necessary correction if required.
(c) More variants can be added later IMHO

Help/comments welcome
