I was surprised to find a hard-coded color light grey in this file instead of color 16.
Is this really a physical color shortcut?
Not a numbering alias?
If we would consider it being a numbering alias
(because LEGO would surely not use number 3846p45.dat),
and not a physical color shortcut, then this file could
use color 16 which would make it more versatile.
If it keeps being a hard-coded color shortcut, then IMHO
"Grey" (or "Gray"... whatthe...) should appear in its title.
Note additionally that the files that this file points to have flaws:
they use pattern enhancement lines and have gaps :-(

my above hold reason is no longer valid.
this is a normal physical color shortcut.
the "...a" suffix was necessary due to the obsoletization of 80298.dat
