Should get !CATEGORY Vehicle on release to match the other forklift parts.

do we have a category "Forklift" already?
Can someone point me to a list of all currently official categories?

There is a Forklift category, but all the other forklift parts seem to have been moved to 'Vehicle' recently. I'm assuming that these two were missed for some reason.

Yes, category "Forklift" might be a relict.
"Vehicle" is much better (because more generic).

The title is not sufficient in my opinion. We have lots of springs. This for example is an "extension spring" whereas most other springs are "compression springs". I think this should be mentioned in the title.

mike, did you suggest suffixes
"(Expanded)"
"(Compressed)"
in your previous post?

I'm not sure this file should exist. My first thought was to do a little sub-part (70181c01), to be placed in each main-part (45707 and 4518b),
and then let the builder himself make a spiral spring with the help of MLCad Spring Generator. A spring that is adapted to the appropriate length or position of the forks.
Any thoughts about that?
Is the name OK now?

Is there a good reason not to put the origin on the hinge point? this shortcut would be much more easy to use!

Title doesn't make much sense :-( In standard English, it means "This is an extension part for a spring"...

'Extended' or 'Stretched' would be better.

Also, "3,5" should be "3.5".

This type of spring is called an "extention spring".
Could you please help me with a better name?
I want to keep the word 'spring' first, so it would be sorted with other springs, but that might be wrong, compared to other LDraw-springs.
Would a simple comma do the trick, "Spring, Extention 18 x 3.5mm"?
Or should it be "Forklift Extention Spring 18 x 3.5mm (streched to 58 LDU)"?

I know this problem. It also occurs at the screws. I like "Spring, Extension ....". If you adjust this one, please also update the subparts to carry the same! By doing this we can keep that parts together in applications for authors. Please do not use Forklift in the name.

It's a matter of word order...

'Extension Spring' describes a type of spring.
'Spring Extension' describes an additional part for use with a spring.

What we need is to describe how the spring has been modified, hence: "Spring, Extended".

I do not understand the reasoning behind the choice of origin.
I would have expected it either
- in the center of one end of the spring
or
- nearly where it is now, but not so offset from the spring, but instead just touching it

When the rounded spring hangs on a square hook, it never touches the top surface, only the corners of the hook.
Not much of an arguement, but that's why I placed it like it is.

as this coordinate depends on the hook and not on the spring,
I think that it is a bad choice for the origin.
What do you think about changing the origin to one of the two
suggested?
Remember that we may have more springs in future,
and people will have to choose origins for those as well.

The hole spring is not offset, only the end of it is a little bit uncentred. 0.07 0.25 -0.2
Were do you mean that "the center of one end of the spring" is?

It would also mean that I have to reposition it in 2 files ready for release.

I'm unsure here, just thinking.
That center I meant would be the imaginary "center"
of the "circularish" area at the end.
hmmmmm.
As for the other springs, I think we can quickly re-establish their status after origin change (should you decide to do it).

I'm unsure here.

Here's two more options:
- at the spring center
- at the top, i.e., outside of the circular end area

the origin is not matching the systematics of the other springs
which have "handles" at their tops and bottoms.
there, the origin is placed at where the handle is attached
to the normal spring section.
that should be done here as well IMHO.
