Is this the only part with this pattern?
If so, then please inline the pattern into this part.

I have not found another part with this pattern so like Magnus I'd prefer to see it inlined.

there's something broken here now.
the subfile s\59231p40a.dat magically disappeared.
it seems to no longer be on the PT

It disappeared not magically but because of the fact that it is now an official part - see the latest update.

My mistake - s/59231p40a.dat should have been held back as a not-yet-used subpart, but due to a small typo it escaped into the wild.

ah, yes. so what do we do here now? we have 2 choices:
(a) obsoletize the subfile and inline the pattern
(b) certify this as-is
none of these choices is irreversible:
should we do (a) and later see that the pattern needs to be shared,
then we could re-activate that file and put the pattern in there.
should we do (b), we could later still obsoletize the subfile.
so what to do now?

More precisely we have 3 choices:
a)Inlining only the helmet pattern and optimizing the blue faces. Advantage: It reduces the number of dark and medium blue faces because we do not need to regard the "all-purpose borders" of the subfile. Disadvantage: If we later need a subfile, we must rebuild it.
b) Inlining the pattern as it is (with its all-purpose borders and therefore its dark and medium blue faces). Advantage: If we later need a subfile, we only have need to outline it. Disadvantage: This leads to some more blue faces then necessary.
c) Using the subfile. Advantage: If we later need this subfile in an other part, we already have it. Disadvantage: One more file.
I would prefer c). Here we are prepared for parts to come.
