The electrical parts have color 14 (plain yellow): error.

There are 2 ways to model electric parts:

1) Use the "special" yellow 494 which is used for example in
p\studel.dat. This exists to imitate some LEGO instructions
where those special studs get a special, yellow, color.
2) Use a metal color, e.g. 383 which is being displayed as real
metal (see part 7857 currently here on the PT for an example).

Since this part is being displayed in the LEGO instructions
non-yellow (this part dates before the electrical studs came up),
I would go for variant 2) here.

Additionally, the electrical contacts should not be modeled using
simply stud2.dat - I get a LEGO logo in them when I render.

They should be modeled such that a plug can really be put into
them. Maybe have a look at
http://www.ldraw.org/cgi-bin/ptdetail.cgi?f=parts/x863p04.dat
for an example.
