Why was this part made without a groove? Are there two versions of it?
One with a "square" bottom, without groove, and one with "round" bottom, with a groove (both having a cross understud).

Compare these two, with 2376 and 74698.

I checked my oldest model with (from 1988) and also pictures via Google of older models with this part. All parts I could find, are "grooved" and my parts also have a "round" bottom. So I think, that the old version was just hardly simplified for easier modelling.
