To proceed this file we have to decide the more detailed part.
http://www.ldraw.org/cgi-bin/ptdetail.cgi?f=parts/3865h.dat
My suggestion is:
Use this header and number and put the content of 3865h.dat here.

no, Mike, this file already had been official.
this is just an update.
the ...h variants appeared later on the PT,
and their appearance is not this part's fault,
please let this through,
the ...h decision can be done independently of this update...

Yes, this is just an update. That is true. But I think that this part in real looks like the h-variant. So why do an update on a part that is already out to build with without the - already done - best visual apperiance?
It should not be a big issue to solve the problems with the h-variants and integrate that in this file.

because that would create an inconsistent look -
currently no (flat) baseplate has a modeled underside...

As I do not see the need for the 3865h variant, I'll certify this.
There are many parts with a simplified design. eg. the "stud3.dat" is tube-shaped.
Do we realy need a "high resolution" version of all files?

I think that h versions are interesting, but shouldn't become standard since they are very polygon intensive (that's already the case of regular baseplates...). Maybe someday when there is a mechanism similar to lores studs to toggle?

I also think that in future a switching mechanism could be added
which allows the user to toggle if baseplates should get underside
modeling etc. Until that has been decided, let's keep the current
status quo and pass this, please...
