I'm probably jumping the gun, mentioning this (since you say it's a work in progress, and I'm GUESSING you're planning on introducing some primitives for the upper thigh curve?) but I used 3817b and 3816b for some TEXMAP work today, and it would be much more useful if you "unwound" this part and put all the primitives in place, rather than mirroring the other leg; for the purposes of decoration (TEXMAP _or_ traditional).

Could you maybe explain this a little bit more?
Using a cyli prim on the rounded surface is not possible since none of the quads are equilateral.
Is it not possible to have a texmap on a mirrored part?

TEXMAP requires that !TEXMAP directives be placed around the geometry to be texture mapped (and no other geometry). One would need to "go inside" the leg part in order to just target the faces that need the design.

For my work, I first rearranged the quads and tris inside 3817b to group them; I sorted them by Y coordinate, but then took the "top" of the foot and placed it below the front of the foot, so it was outside the range of faces that needed to be texture mapped. That allowed me to texture map from the top of the curved thigh to the bottom of the foot without having the texture "bleed" onto the "top of the toes".

Then I copied that file to a new 3816b, cheated slightly by mirroring the sub-part (rather than using a tool or mirroring it manually), but then adjusted all the geometry (quads and tris) by negating their X coordinates, and then swapping the 2nd and last coordinate in each to fix the winding. I then texture mapped the same way I had the other leg, but with a different texture of course.

so, isn't the mirrored leg that very geometry?
why does it have to be primitives?

These are the working guts of my 88248s03.dat (a textured 3816 for minifigure series 1 tribal hunter):

we do NOT want to texture map the sub part (s\3816bs01.dat which does not currently exist but which I am simulating with a mirror of s\3817bs01.dat), and we do not want to texture the "top of the foot" using a texture defined from the front (there COULD be a separate texture for that if needed).
