I'm not sure, if it would be better to have only "round" beard stubbles instead of some round and some elliptical ones.

i would prefer round stubbles too, but the elliptical ones appear when the pattern with round stubbles is projected on the head's surface. with some ellipses in the projection pattern the effect is decreased, but far from perfect.
i don't know how to solve this :-(

It _should_ be possible to pre-distort the dots so that they are round after projection... but it's very difficult!
