Thanks for making the correction to the descriptions, but I've been thinking about these studs for some days now.
Wouldn't it be better to redesign them into 3/4-studs?

Today, everytime we need a stud with a small hole in a new position, we have to make a set of twelve files.
4 with normal resolution, 4 lo-res and 4 moved to-files.
I made this set, stud19a-d for part 4209. I need to make a new set of twelve for 6556.

My idea is to change stud19a-d into a set of four 3/4-stud (normal and lo-res) taking care of stud snapping and logo orientation.
And to then add the small holes as reusable sub-files. One sub-file for 4209 and one for 6556.

Advantage: No need for more stud primitives everytime.
Disadvantage: The small hole is not replaced in lo-res.

What do you all think?

By prefence, I'd prefer not to have subfiles in primitives, I think the additional work after creating one file, to rotate it, is minimal. I don't envisage there being very many more sets of these.

I don't want to use sub-files in the primitives.

Or maybe two new primitives?
"Quarter stud filler with small hole at x=2, z=6", 1-4stufill24.dat

To be reused in different orientations.

We need to understand how this will work in lo-res mode.

a) if the lo-res version is only a 3/4 stud, how will renderers know how to fill-in the missing 1/4? Currently the lo-res rule is hard-coded into apps as (regex) s/stud(.*)/stu2$1/, so 1-4stufill* would not get substituted.

b) if the lo-res version is a complete stud, how do we prevent the rendering of the stud filler?

I think dealing with this is more complex that just having 4 extra primitives.

Wouldn't the missing 1-4 simply be filled by the quarter filler?
A combination of a lo-res 3/4-stud, with a normal resolution filler.

The holes in the bottom of 4209 is not replaced.
Do we need to replace the holes in the top?

It works in MLCad too.
MLCad has four levels: normal, coarse, lines, none.
It looks good at normal and coarse, but strange at line and none.
