The SteerCo is pleased to announce that the 2011 James Jessiman Memorial Award (JJMA) recipient is Travis Cobbs.

Travis Cobbs is the author of LDView, one of the cornerstones of the LDraw System of Tools. When it comes down to quickly viewing a LDraw file, LDView is the first choice for many users. Additionally, do to his active development since it's release in 2000, LDView has become the de facto reference renderer for LDraw part and is used by the LDraw Parts Tracker to generate part images. Travis has been a major player in shaping almost all the LDraw standards and specifications and has furthered the LDraw language and community as member of the LDraw Standards Committee since 2006.

The SteerCo is pleased to announce that the James Jessiman Memorial Award (JJMA) for 2009 will be awarded to Tim Courtney.

Tim's work on behalf of LDraw cannot be understated. Upon the sudden death of James, the LDraw community was in turmoil. Tim spearheaded the effort to create and launch LDraw.org to enable James' legacy to endure. As chief spokesman for LDraw at many fan events, Tim brought an uncountable number of people into the LDraw community. Tim also lead the effort to formally organize LDraw.org by helping to create the Standards Committee, the Steering Committee, and co-authoring the LDraw.org bylaws. He, along with the Jessimans, also helped to create this award to recognize those whose efforts have furthered LDraw.

On the 25th July 1997, James Jessiman passed away due to complications from the flu. The LDraw Steering Committee would like to commemorate the 10th anniversary of this sad day with a tribute page to James and his great foundation. We invite you to send in a picture of a:

1 4 0 0 0 1 0 0 0 1 0 0 0 1 3002.dat

(a red Brick 2x3 for all those who are not CAD nerds). Your contributions will be collected in a gallery on the site.

If you do not feel comfortable with radiosity or hires-rendering and your images are usually outputs of MLCad this is not a problem - we accept every kind of format, sketches, artwork or even photographs but we obviously prefer “LDraws”. Furthermore we kindly ask you to limit the size to 640x480 pixel. The rest is entirely up to you – no guidelines, no deadline (though it would be nice having your tribute by July 25th). Feel free to add a short text to your entry of LDraw.org's icon. Entries should be sent to the webmasters with the subject “LDraw - 10th anniversary” by using the following address:

webmaster@#say-no-to-spam#ldraw.org (don't forget to delete the spamblocker)

The SteerCo member's tributes have already been added to the gallery.
