Follow the procedures outlined on this page when you edit
ANY page/article/story which you did not originate on the LDraw.org site. It is very important we track edits in case of any problems!
Critical and Non-Critical Pages
For the sake of convenience, we shall categorize a page on the site as "CRITICAL" or "NON-CRITICAL." This will help expedite editing procedures, as people trusted to be on the LDraw.org website team are knowledgable enough to edit most, non-critical pages on the site.
Editing procedures need to be a bit more strict on critical pages. These are pages which are directly tied to major functions or user services on the site. They often require special attention from a member or members of the website team to ensure they are functioning and accurate.
Critical pages include:
- Getting Started pages, the gateway "Get Started" page, and Get Started/Installation pages for the three OS'es supported on LDraw.org; Windows, Mac, and Linux.
- Download Parts Update page. This page pulls content from the Parts Tracker, which Steve Bliss manages. This page should not be edited without Steve's knowledge and approval.
- Add additional critical pages here.
If you are editing a NON-CRITICAL page or article...
- Note the fact that you have edited the page in the Notes section at the bottom of the form, like this:
Last edited by Tim Courtney [4] on 10-Sep-03.
If there is already an edit note, replace the last editor's name with your own, and change the date as appropriate.
- Send an email to the ldraw-content@ldraw.org list logging your edit. Include the following information:
- URL, in the following form: http://www.ldraw.org/article/127 [5]
- Bulleted list of specific edits you made. Cite locations of text and images so as not to be ambiguous. Basically, anyone reading your mail should be able to click the link and by your description know exactly what you edited.
If you are editing a CRITICAL page or article...
- Check with the "owner" of the page before making edits, by sending an email to the ldraw-content@ldraw.org list. Owners of critical pages should state that they maintain the page in the page's notes. In your email, include:
- The URL of the article, in the form shown above.
- Specifically what you would like to have edited, and why.
In ideal situations, the owner of the critical page will make the edit him/herself. If they are unresponsive for more than a week after multiple contact attempts, seek the counsel of Orion or Tim. They will let you know if you should proceed with your proposed edits, or will make the changes themselves.
