Protocol [1]: Adding Pages to the Site [2]

Administrative [3]
This page outlines the procedure for adding articles (page content) to the website. Please follow these guidelines, and refer back to them if you are unsure of the proper procedure. You can leave comments below if you would like to discuss points of the procedures.
NOTE: If you are looking for the procedures for adding Main Page news, see Article 95 [4]

To start a new page, go to Administrative > Add Story

Editing Pages
For procedures on editing pages you did not originate, see the protocol page Editing Articles and Logging Edits [5].

WARNING: We STRONGLY recommend you edit your page content in a separate text editor. Occasionally, the PostNuke system gives a no authorization error when you press OK on the Add Story dialog (or Save Changes when editing a page).

Topic:
This allows you to select what area of the site your article is stored in. We take a structured approach to storing content on LDraw.org. Please choose the most appropriate topic for your article. If you have any questions about where a page should go, please take it to the Content Email List.

Category:
See the Category Reference [6] to determine which category to place your article in. Note: the Submit News form does not allow you to select a category. If you are adding a page via this method, an administrator will assign your article a category if applicable.

Publish On Homepage?
Select "No" for most all pages - as you are likely creating page content, not a news item.

Allow Comments?
Use your best judgement. If you are creating a specifications page, the best place to discuss this is probably on LUGNET [7]. If you are submitting an event report, allowing comments would be nice.

Language:
ALWAYS select "All" fron the Language drop-down.

Uploading Images
If you need to upload images to the site for your page, see the protocol page Using the Gallery to Upload Images [8].

Story Text:
This is the text that will show up as a 'summary' on the topic page which indexes the article, underneath its title. It will also display as the first paragraph(s) of the article on its own page. Make sure to select the proper content format type from the drop-down menu below the text area.

Extended Text:
This is the body of the article. Make sure to select the proper content format type from the drop-down menu below the text area.

Notes:
These will display italic below the article, and below the Story Text (summary) on the main page. Please include an edit line like the following in the notes box:

Programming the Story:
Use this to set a specific time for a story to post on the site. Remember, the server is running on GMT. Eastern US time (EST) is GMT -5 and CST is -6. This means, Midnight GMT is 7:00 PM EST. Note that GMT is EST -4 and CST -5 during Daylight Savings Time, if your region of the country observes DST.
