Download: Get Started: Windows Users
This section will help you set up the files you need to get started with LDraw. The installation process is not complicated, but it does require a working knowledge of computers.
Step 1:
Download and install original LDraw Package
The original LDraw package contains the parts libraries needed to get started creating LDraw models. Clicking Step 1 will take you to the download and installation instructions. Be sure to follow them carefully! This step cannot be skipped.
Step 2:
Choose a Second Generation Editor
Second Generation Editors are new programs which allow you to design models using the oringinal LDraw file format and parts libraries. These are easy to use Windows-based programs and are the most popular editing tools for LDraw.

MLCad
A popular LDraw-based Windows editor, MLCad offers full drag and drop support for adding, copying and moving LEGO parts, a parts inventory feature for your models, creation of steps for building instructions, and much more!
To download, visit the MLCad site, click the 'Download' link and follow the instructions.

LeoCAD
This is a great editor for Windows and Linux which has offered several improvements to the straight LDraw .dat format. It supports some basic animation (via keyframing) and can also export to 3DStudioMax, POV-Ray, and Alias Wavefront.
To download, visit the LeoCAD site, click either 'Windows' or 'Linux' for your OS and follow the instructions.

Step 3:
Dive in!
Learning how to use your new editor may be a challenge, but with a little practice you will get the hang of it. There are tutorials for MLCad and LeoCAD available online. These should help you in your journey to becoming a 3D LEGO-style modeling expert.
Step 4:
Introduction to LDraw Utilities
There is a lot you can do with LDraw files beyond just creating LEGO models! Many contributors have developed utilities to make the most of the LDraw file format. Check out a brief introduction to a few utilities, and then move on to download them.
Step 5:
Download Software
Check out LDraw.org's list of software packages to download which supplement the standard editors. Download programs like L3P, POV-Ray, various file format converters and rendering tools.
