Download file name: SR 3D Builder[ Editor review | Report broken link ] Total of 3 Comments | | User: steff63 | Rating: 10 | Apr 24, 2010 | | Users' average rating: 10.0 | Number of ratings: 1 | | Do to last comment, the programm works fine on newer machins. For me, it is the editor for Lego of this time. Comparing with other editors on this site, is like comparing win 3.1 with win 7. And i don't work nomore with win 3.1... It is a modern Lego editor with drag and drop , connection detection in every form and angle, drag and drop building directly on the drawn model. And all with free camera while bulding.
In last version (0.4.5.7) stability of programm is good. Partail crashes when deleting, but even then saving is possible when a error occours. Colse and restart, and all is ok.
However, some group function could be better, save and load of construction groups i wold like, but even like it is, it is a great, modern program.
This program is my Lego editor and my Lego viewer. Nothing other needed. Simply great.

It has some little problems but it is still under development.
At first the program didn't run at all, but (for me) I figured out how to get it up and running with help from the programmers website.
First, I run XP service pack 3
Second, I installed .net framework 2.0
Third, I installed the web version of the latest directx drivers ( I already had 9.0c )
I must note I have a nvidia gpu, because it seems to have troubles with ATI-cards.
I rate this program a 7 because some work needs to be done, and the learning curve, but it has great promises for the future and it's truly worth a try!

It is the spiritual successor to Lego Digital Designer — except for the minor problem that it has absolutely no spirit. This software does not run at all without throwing hordes upon hordes of non-fatal exceptions, and the occasional fatal one. Virtually every single feature was broken when I tried it on both home and work machines. At home, I couldn't even get it to display the editing viewport, whereas at work none of the editing features seemed to work. I was presented with a pretty (though not particularly well-organized) toolbox of parts, with no idea whatsoever how to manipulate them. For all the features the author claims this software has, I witnessed none of them, nor did I witness any documentation describing how to use them.
I rate this product a three (3) because of the effort that went into it (and the fact that the toolbox actually does work), but I rate it a zero (0) for functionality. Should there come a time when an experienced programmer with a solid understanding of .NET and, more importantly, proper exception handling takes over this project, I will gladly give it another try and reassess my experience. Until then, you're better off sticking with what works. As much as I cringe at MLCAD's utilitarian design and distinct user-unfriendliness, SR 3D gives me night terrors. Thus, I walk back to it with a bit of chagrin on my shoulder. Better luck next time. |
