Between 21 and 26 October over 40,000 people attended LEGOWORLD 2004 held in Zwolle, The Netherlands. An LDraw.org booth was co-ordinated by Chris Dee with real-time presentations about the LDraw library and toolset with demonstrations of MLCad. We had ten computers available for visitors to try out MLCad and POV-Ray, and on the two days of the weekend a rolling gallery of POV-Ray images. On the Thursday visitors were able to experience some of the spectacular animation work of Anton Raves.

LDraw.org will host two back-to-back Birds of a Feather sessions at SIGGRAPH 2004 this year. Last year was LDraw.org's first year participating in SIGGRAPH. LDraw activities included an activity area at a LEGO fan booth and an introductory BOF session.

This year, while there will be no LDraw booth, we are expanding to two BOF sessions; one to introduce people to virtual LEGO software, and the other to share ideas about developing these virtual LEGO tools. The Developer Roundtable ties into the L PRIZE, a new software developer contest being launched by Tim Courtney.

The sessions are as follows (expand article for more info):

This series of four posters was on display at BrickFest PDX 2004, giving viewers a visual overview of how to create custom building instructions. This series walks you through creating instructions for Bruce Lowell's Orbisphere model, and features stunning minifig artwork by Greg Barley. These were printed on 22x34" paper and mounted on foamcore. Look forward to seeing them in person at future LEGO events! Click the thumbnails below to see larger versions.

BrickFest PDX 2004 was a great time of fellowship for LDraw users and contributors alike! A diverse track of sessions, a wonderful audience, top-notch rendered artwork, and special guest Dan Baker from Microsoft all contributed to the fun-filled weekend.

Even before the event started, LDraw volunteers were hard at work preparing for the weekend. Thursday night, as the rest of the earlybirds were bringing in their models and setting them up, Tim Courtney and Orion Pobursky were hard at work mounting the gallery posters to foamcore graciously provided by Steve Barile. The printed images all turned out marvelous, thanks to Orion's hard work rendering, and Elroy Davis and Mike Walsh for their help printing.
