BrickFest PDX 2004 was a great time of fellowship for LDraw users and contributors alike! A diverse track of sessions, a wonderful audience, top-notch rendered artwork, and special guest Dan Baker from Microsoft all contributed to the fun-filled weekend.

Even before the event started, LDraw volunteers were hard at work preparing for the weekend. Thursday night, as the rest of the earlybirds were bringing in their models and setting them up, Tim Courtney and Orion Pobursky were hard at work mounting the gallery posters to foamcore graciously provided by Steve Barile. The printed images all turned out marvelous, thanks to Orion's hard work rendering, and Elroy Davis and Mike Walsh for their help printing.

The LDraw Expo booth featured a computer for demonstrating LDraw tools, high-quality rendered posters of LEGO models, and a four-poster visual overview on how to make custom building instructions. The booth was positioned in the main walkway of the convention space, which gave it good exposure for convention attendees.

Several LDraw talks were given at BrickFest PDX 2004. Tim Courtney presented an introductory session, Orion Pobursky talked on parts authoring, Stephen Fisher gave an expanded introduction talk, also touching on wider applications for virtual LEGO software such as parts catalogs, and Dan Baker presented his LView rendering engine. Tim and Orion also co-chaired an LDraw community roundtable where discussion centered around the organization process, parts authoring/reviewing, and other topics. Tim signed copies of the book Virtual LEGO for conference attendees and the public.

These LDraw sessions were all well attended by new and experienced users alike. Some even made the trip out to BrickFest just to attend these sessions! Overall, response to LDraw efforts at the event were very positive.

It was great to see enthusiasm for LDraw tools so high at a LEGO fan event - here's looking forward to BrickFest in DC!
