Things to consider if updating to POV-Ray 3.5
- L3PAO doesn’t execute POV-Ray 3.5 correctly
This means that every time you run L3PAO with the "render upon completion" option checked,
POV-Ray will start but nothing will happen. L3PAO converted files do work on POV-Ray 3.5, but only by
opening them from within POV-Ray or double clicking the POV-files.
- There is an undocumented error in the POV-Ray color.inc that causes files with LGEO to fail
If you want to use the LGEO library, you have to edit colors.inc to get it working.
Open the colors.inc file. It is located in the POV-Ray install directory in the Include folder
(in Windows, this is usually C:\Program Files\POV-Ray for Windows v3.5\include\).
Find the line:
#declare Colors_Inc_Temp = version;
Immediately following the above line add this line:
#version 3.5;
Save the file.
- MegaPOV users NEED to upgrade to MegaPOV 1.0
MegaPOV 0.7 doesn't work with POV-Ray 3.5, so you will need to install MegaPOV 1.0
You can find MegaPOV 1.0 in the Download section
Changes in POV-Ray 3.1 to 3.5
- The interface has changed a bit, some minor bugs are fixed and some functions added or changed.
- Experienced users maybe should consider updating; the radiosity options are somewhat better
and editing POV-files is somewhat easier.
- If you want L3PAO’s rendering options or MegaPOV compatibility stick with POV-Ray 3.1.
- The update isn’t a large change of the program; . Don’t expect an increase of rendering speed.
Alternative Software
LPub
Supports 3.1, 3.5 AND MegaPov, but has a bit steeper
learning curve. LPub provides a GUI similar to L3PAO but also expands on
it. Furthermore, you can create building instructions.
